When was the last time you heard something that sounded “too good to be true” or was “so unbelievable that it truly couldn’t be real?” Yesterday, we revealed that Roblox would be doing another version of ‘The Hunt,’ a special in-game event where millions of players come together to enjoy all manner of games and see who is the best among them. The twist was that the “Mega Edition” of the event would be much more grand than before, including being worth $1 million to the grand prize winner. As you personally might have thought, “That’s too good to be true, right?”
Except it’s not. Nor is it a “it’s a million dollars spread around” situation. Roblox’s CEO, David Baszucki, went onto Twitter right before the main announcement and made it very clear that the grand prize winner of “The Hunt: Mega Edition” would indeed get a million dollars all to themselves. It’s real, and here is the tweet proving it:
So, what does this really mean? It means that you can expect millions of players to dive into this event and attempt to get that million dollars!!! If you didn’t read our breakdown of the event yesterday, “The Hunt” will feature players going through 24 events within the title, spanning numerous games and worlds. The best of the best will eventually be whittled down to just ten players, and then, those ten will be taken to the game dev’s HQ where, during a special live-streamed event, they’ll do even more competitions until only one of them remains!
The fact that the team is willing to put up a million dollars to showcase how big they want the event to be really says something about the game’s current success. For context, WITHOUT this massive grand prize, last year’s version of “The Hunt” brought in 34 million players. That’s an insane amount, and shows the loyalty that gamers have to the title.
Yet, with this grand prize money at stake, it’s almost inconceivable that we wouldn’t get a whole new swarm of players, including all-new players who join just to have a shot at the grand prize. After all, money has a weird effect on people. Plus, it’s important to recall that the only real “restriction” for the event is that you have to be over 13 years old.
