The state of Mortal Kombat 1 is a bit hard to define. The game was a success upon its launch in 2023, as the game sold millions of units and had a bunch of people talking about the new versions of Klassic characters, the realistic-looking graphics, the fun references to things past and present, etc. Then, with the first Kombat Pack, fans were happy to get characters like Takeda, Omni-Man, Homelander, Quan Chi, and more. However, when the “Khaos Reigns” expansion, the first story expansion for the title, things seemed to fall off the rails rather quickly. The second Kombat Pack was a part of that expansion, and its final member has gotten their teaser.
That “final member” is none other than the T-1000 Terminator from the legendary second film in the franchise. Played by Robert Patrick, who reprises his role for the game, the T-1000 was the first case of “Terminator vs. Terminator” action, a trope that would play out throughout the rest of the franchise’s films and spinoffs.
While the teaser is brief, we do get to see the T-1000 go up against Johnny Cage, who is a perfect opponent for him, given that Johnny is a “megastar.” As you’ll see below, the team is perfectly fine with using the T-1000’s liquid metal body to the fullest, doing all manner of attacks based on the machine’s versatility and freedom of movement. Plus, if you’re familiar with the film, you’ll fully get the reference to this Fatality:
Yeah, that’s pretty cool, and it speaks to how well NetherRealm Studios embraces the source material to ensure that the character ‘fits’ in their universe. Good times.
Sadly, the good times may end here. Ever since “Khaos Reigns” arrived, rumors have been flying about whether this will be the last DLC for the title. Why is that? Well, while Mortal Kombat 1 has been well enough in sales, the story expansion wasn’t a huge hit at all. Many fans weren’t happy that they were basically paying for a whole game when it wasn’t worth that much. So, they didn’t buy it.
As such, the rumors claim that there won’t be a Kombat Pack 3 this year. Ed Boon himself seemed to have waved off those rumors, but only time will tell on that front.
No matter what, the T-1000 is coming next month alongside the next Kameo character, Madam Bo. So, be ready for their arrival so you can “FIGHT!”
