Netflix has become about as ubiquitous as Blockbuster was at its height in the late 90s and early 2000s. A core part of any movie rental store’s business was also game rentals and Netflix has emulated that pretty well. Netflix offers a broad catalogue of games for users to play and they’re constantly adjusting that offering, just like many other game streaming platforms. Now, it seems Netflix has dropped six upcoming games from its lineup.
As shared by the folks over at Games Industry.Biz. Netflix has cancelled six game launches from its service. According to the site What’s on Netflix, which first covered the news, Netflix has dropped the upcoming titles.
What’s On Netflix reached out to the streaming giant regarding the recent changes. A representative informed them that this change is an adjustment based on subscriber interest. The six games being dropped are:
- Compass Point: West
- Don’t Starve Together
- Lab Rat
- Rotwood
- Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game
- Thirsty Suitors
The majority of these games are/will be available on other services. So there are still other ways to play them. Prior to the above revelation, Netflix also removed several other games. Here they are below.
- Crashlands 2
- Placid Plastic Duck
- Vikings: Valhalla
- Desta: The Memories Between
- Mighty Quest Rogue Place
- Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon
- Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story
This doesn’t mean that Netflix is moving away from game streaming, far from it. It appears the company is going to focus more closely on narrative-based games that tie in better with other content. Netflix might benefit from making their games accessible on PCs and Smart TVs with controller support which would entice more gamers.
Netflix’s most recent hit game was Squid Game Unleashed, if you’d like to find out more click here.
