We’re fresh into the year. 2025 already saw Microsoft take center stage and hold their Developer Direct. Meanwhile, Nintendo was quick to drop an official trailer for its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. Players are still waiting for Sony to announce when they will be holding their own presentation event. One industry insider is claiming that the first event will be a State of Play presentation this month.
It shouldn’t be too far out before Sony decides to take a crack at hyping up their own content coming into the marketplace. Of course, we’re waiting on when we can tune in, but one industry insider says it will be this month. Thanks to a report from VGC, we’re finding out that popular industry insider NateTheHate has taken to X to highlight the State of Play.
Specifically, NateTheHate was asked if the first State of Play will still be held this month, and the insider confirmed that is what he’s aware of. However, when asked for a date, it looks like NateTheHate is teasing the week of or even on Valentine’s Day. So, it might be a little while before we get an official confirmation, but at least it looks like Sony is still on track to deliver their first big presentation event of this year before February wraps.
Of course, we’re wondering what Sony is going to highlight. It wasn’t long ago that we saw reports of Sony canceling live service games that were in the works, such as Bend Studio’s project. Meanwhile, it was recently unveiled that Sony will stop providing PlayStation 4 games through their PlayStation Plus monthly offerings when 2025 ends. Fortunately, you still have the remainder of this year to claim these PS4 games each month. For now, we’ll continue to wait and see if Sony reveals the date for their first State of Play event this year.
