We’re fresh into 2025 and nearly through January. Unfortunately, the start of this year is not looking too bright for Ubisoft. A new effort to stay afloat and remain competitive will see nearly 200 employees lose their jobs. Currently, Ubisoft is rolling out a new restructuring effort that is affecting multiple studio locations.
Thanks to VGC, we’ve learned that Ubisoft is making adjustments across Ubisoft Leamington, Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm, and Ubisoft Reflections. The biggest hit right now will be Lemington, as the entire studio location is apparently shutting down. This studio had previously delivered DJ Hero as FreeStyleGames and assisted in various Call of Duty games before being acquired. Since then, the studio has helped support various projects, including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, Skull and Bones, and their last confirmed project to have had a hand in was Star Wars Outlaws.
This studio is closing while cuts are being made to the other locations, as previously stated above. A spokesperson released a statement to VGC that again mentions the focus on ensuring long-term stability within the company through these targeted restructurings. It’s noted that the impact will affect 185 employees’ jobs at the company, with commitments to supporting them through this transition.
Previously, we reported on how Ubisoft’s board was looking at the company’s future potential. Last year wasn’t looking too great for this company, with misses like Skull and Bones and Star Wars Outlaws. Meanwhile, we know that the developers are working hard to ensure Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t meet a similar fate. Developers have delayed this game a few times, with the latest being a chance to help polish this title before it finally hits the marketplace. Ubisoft could really use a win. So, there will be plenty of eyes on their next release to see how it does when it launches.
