The Witcher 3 Remains Popular Because Few Games Surpass Its Storytelling, Says Geralt Voice Actor

January 27, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Will The Witcher 4 raise the bar?

If you’re looking for a new single-player game to get lost in, chances are the various YouTube videos, forums, and lists of recommendations will include The Witcher 3. This game was released in 2015 and continues to be played by countless players worldwide. Recently, the voice actor who stepped into the role of Geralt, Doug Cockle, explained why he feels the game has no problem remaining a contender in the marketplace today.

There’s a lot to love when it comes to The Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red raised the bar regarding what they could offer players. However, today, the game is still thriving, and recently, GamesRadar had the chance to speak with Doug Cockle. Again, this is the voice actor who has portrayed Geralt in the video games. During their conversation, Doug noted multiple milestones for this game.

Its animations, gameplay, visuals, and sounds were of incredible quality. However, he thinks this game is still a success today because he believes very few games have provided the same level of storytelling as The Witcher 3. As a result, you’re still going to find this game easily being recommended by players today.

I think there are very few games that have come out since that have approached that level of immersive storytelling that [The Witcher 3] achieved in 2015 when it first came out. – Doug Cockle

Of course, CD Projekt Red leaving the series on such a high note has us wondering if they can deliver with The Witcher 4. There is already a ton of hype built up around that game after it was showcased to the world last month during The Game Awards.

Meanwhile, Doug Cockle had recently offered his talents as Geralt. If you haven’t already seen the trailer, a new animated film called The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is coming. The film will take place during the first season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation. Those of you interested in another helping of this world while we wait for the next season to drop along with the next game will find the animated film will be released on Netflix on February 11, 2025.
