Pokemon TCG Pocket Announced New Sinnoh-Themed Expansion!

January 23, 2025 by Todd Black

Time for space and time to collide!

It’s a bit hard not to talk about the Pokemon TCG Pocket title from The Pokemon Company. First and foremost, the mobile title has been racing up the charts in terms of both mobile downloads, as well as money spent by gamers. The numbers are truly astounding, showing that the love of the card game has arguably never been higher. While, like most mobile apps of this nature, things have taken a “slow and steady” approach with its cards and features, The Pokemon Company is slowly growing the title, and today, a new expansion was announced that’ll drop in just a few days!

The ”Space-Time Smackdown” takes fans to Gen IV and gives them two different booster packs to enjoy via the legendary Pokemon Dialga and Palkia. In each pack, you’ll have the ability to get different Sinnoh Pokemon, including ones like Pachirisu, Gible, Honchcrow, Cresselia, and, of course, Dialga and Palkia. Oh, and let’s not forget the Sinnoh starters of Turtwing, Chimchar, and Piplup, alongside the Sinnoh League champion, Cynthia!

So, yeah, the “Space-Time Smackdown” will have plenty of new cards for you to enjoy once it arrives on January 29th. Plus, the video trailer also revealed that on January 28th, there will be a “new trade feature!”

The Pokemon TCG Pocket game hasn’t had trading yet and for fair reasons. After all, with so many downloads, it would’ve overloaded the internet and the game’s systems to have full-tilt trading from the get-go. The Pokemon Company promised it would arrive, though, and that the feature would be built upon as 2025 went on, and here’s our first glimpse of that.

Undoubtedly, the team will be going hard with the mobile game throughout 2025, with more expansions like this happening at a regular clip. After all, they want to keep their players engaged, and there needs to be plenty of cards to do that.

Previously, another expansion came out featuring Mew and some Johto Pokemon, and now we have Sinnoh coming out. The other regions will likely get their due soon enough, slowly building up the roster of cards that players can use for their decks. The only real questions are about how many expansions will come in a single year or how many cards we’ll have to use by the end of 2025. Plus, there’s also the question of what other features might be added over time.

Only “space-time” will tell, so fans will just have to be patient.
