If you don’t recall, it was this past weekend that Awesome Games Done Quick kicked off. It’s an event with thousands to attend and even more tuning in to watch. Overall, the focus here is to watch speedrunning while donating to the advertised foundation. Today, we’re finding out that the event has officially wrapped up, and with it came the announcement of over $2.5 million being raised for Prevent Cancer Foundation.
Thanks to VGC, we’re finding out that the presentation was quite a success with the amount of money raised. Before we get ahead of ourselves, those of you who are unfamiliar with this event, it’s all about speedrunning. Awesome Games Done Quick takes about a week to fully go through, and the entire time, it’s streamed 24/7. Hosting various speedrunners, the presentation had a lineup of what games were being played next and by who. Various games were featured, such as classics like Super Metroid and newer hits, including Elden Ring.
From there, the event would showcase the players going through the game as they comment on various tips or tricks to get through the game as fast as possible. Meanwhile, those viewing the stream can donate money where the funds are saved for a foundation. In this case, the cause chosen was the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This US-based nonprofit organization is dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection.
The total amount raised from this speedrunning event was $2,556,305. That’s quite a massive amount of money raised from generous donors who tuned in to see some of these incredible games being completed at lightning speed. Fortunately, if you missed out on the event when it was happening live, all the speedruns are archived on the official Games Done Quick YouTube channel. For instance, one of the stream archives below features Crazy Taxi being played with a live band.
