There’s a new Switch 2 rumor that seems to add context to everything else that we have been hearing over the past few days.
Samus Hunter made this statement on Twitter:
“Nintendo may advance the next-generation Switch reveal with an announcement that possibly could come before DK. This is to address recent leaks especially of accessories to ensure official news for the public. The remaining announcements of Switch games may come a little later.”
DK would seem to refer to Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, a Switch title that already has a release date. So Samus is saying that the Switch 2 announcement could come on or before January 16, 2025. That would be within 30 days from today.
One could say these are bold predictions, but Samus Hunter is one of several sources who corroborated that the Switch 2 reveal would be coming next month. Samus Hunter has certainly escalated things, by giving an even more specific time frame for it.
And at the same time, Samus Hunter is lending weight to the claims that the rumored Switch 2 image leaks, including all the 3D printed models and renders, all based around an alleged September 18 CAD image leak, all of those are accurate, and based on a real Switch 2.
If so, it would be truly remarkable that Nintendo’s best guarded secrets were exposed so quickly. Given that misinformation was able to spread so easily prior to the Switch’s launch, it seemed easy to assume that fans would also be vulnerable to easily spread misinformation right now.
Of course, we still wouldn’t know anything about what Nintendo really has planned, and all of this, with all of these people doubling down on what they know, could all turn out to be wrong. Nintendo could very easily see all of this online noise and change their mind on their plans, if it suited them.
And if Nintendo is in a situation where they’re still not ready with the volume of consoles they want to sell, they would definitely be incentivized to delay. Even if everything and the kitchen sink got leaked, it would not necessarily be an impediment if they kept holding off on that launch.
Remember, when a game company pulls the trigger for that launch, it will be really hard to pull things back. And it will be hard for Nintendo to catch up if their stocks aren’t enough to meet the pent up demand for this new system.
So this may not be what fans, or the insiders, want to hear, but there’s very good reason to believe that Nintendo is inclined to keep delaying their launch even further. And that could mean an announcement could be delayed too.
As of right now, Samus Hunter’s claim is now on a timer, and we already know it isn’t going to happen in 15 of those 30 days. We’ll see as those last 15 days go by how accurate this rumor turns out to be.
