Rumor: Monolith Productions Aiming For 2026 Wonder Woman Release Date; But Even That Is Unrealistic

December 13, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

It’s been too long since we last heard from Monolith.

Jason Schreier has an intriguing new rumor about Monolith Productions’ upcoming Wonder Woman game.

As shared on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit by user Famous-Pay5201, Monolith is aiming for a 2026 release date. However, as Schreier explained in the podcast he revealed this rumor, this planned release year is also unrealistic.

So far, Monolith has been shielded in putting the game up to scrutiny. Their Wonder Woman game was announced in 2021, and it has taken seven years since their last published title, Middle-earth: Shadow of War. So, we know that Monolith has taken at least three years to make this game. While they could have been making the game for longer, it would be absolutely reasonable to say that they will need a more time to polish and finish it, even going past 2025.

It just so happens that Schreier was also talking about Monolith’s Wonder Woman game in a different podcast yesterday. If his information is correct, Monolith really only had that teaser trailer ready to share when they made that announcement. That does not necessarily mean that Monolith didn’t put any work in before. Monolith and WB Games could have already been refining the game’s elements before moving forward with proper game development.

Still, one can’t fault fans for feeling frustrated as Monolith has taken a bit too long before releasing a new title. It may help if WB Games confirmed that, for example, they were also working on Hogwarts Legacy, alongside the likes of Rocksteady Studios.

In any case, as frustrating as these things can be, nothing can derail a AAA’s game development than if it got leaked or revealed way too early. Things like performance and graphics will definitely not be tightened up yet, and many gamers have revealed they really don’t quite understand that studios do that graphical polish nearer the end of the development cycle.

If there is a more reasonable cause for concern, it would be that Monolith itself has taken too long to make this next game. Regardless if it was a DC character, a Tolkien themed game, or something else, Monolith may have already gotten behind on their peers in the industry when it comes to the latest trends.

But then, it also seemed like it was taking too long before we learned anything new about Microsoft’s Perfect Dark reboot, until we actually saw it in this year’s Xbox Games Showcase. So that Wonder Woman game announcement may not take that much longer, and it’s certainly one that WB Games hopes Monolith can get right.
