A new alleged leak has appeared for the Nintendo Switch 2.
As shared on the NintendoSwitch2 subreddit by user Nacam1, a Facebook account named Towkay Vortex shared photos of what he claims were models of Switch 2 accessories. At the time of this writing, that Facebook post is gone. The pictures spread across multiple gaming news outlets and communities, so we have multiple witnesses, of sorts, to attest that they saw the same post.
We primarily see a light blue green casing for what appears to be a Nintendo Switch. The casing appears to be flexible, possibly similar to a smartphone jelly case. But what would be of interest here, of course, is what appears to be a Switch 2 render inside the case.
The alleged Switch 2 and its case seem to confirm that the console will have a U-shaped kickstand, vents at the top and bottom of the console, and a second USB-A port on top. But there’s also speculation on other holes made on the case.
Nintendo Prime reviewed these images in his video, and he believes two of the new openings on the Switch 2 case indicate that the console could have a light sensor on top, as well as a microphone.
For those wondering, the Nintendo Switch did not have a microphone, but the WiiMote, Wii U Pro Controller, and the range of DS and 3DS portable devices had microphones. Ironically, some Nintendo applications of the microphone were for it to also emit sound as well as capture it.
But at the time, Nintendo was playing with adding mics and speakers to their controllers as input and feedback mechanisms for their games. Nowadays, there’s an appetite for game controllers to enable online voice chat.
All of this lines up with prior rumors we reported on, in particular with prior 3D printed models and mockups of the console. But one interesting aspect that hasn’t been addressed by these rumors is the claim earlier this year that some peripheral makers were allowed to touch the Switch 2 under covering, but not see it.
So it certainly leaves us wondering; why did Nintendo now give some of these peripheral makers enough information to make their own Switch 2 mockups? We will go ahead with our bold, baseless speculation: there may be an extra gimmick to the Switch 2, that we can’t see in the physical console, but it may be obvious when the screen turns on.
In any case, Nintendo fans waiting for real news will clearly have to be patient for a little bit longer. The company very clearly did not bring any news over at The Game Awards, and it’s clear their plans don’t include revealing anything about the Switch 2 anytime soon. At least, it seems, not this year.
