PlayStation Reportedly Not Concerned With Players Switch To PC

December 11, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

PS5 is still on track.

Not long ago, we learned Sony was finally dabbling more into the PC platform. We saw several of their PlayStation exclusives make their way onto the PC, allowing players to try these titles out without being forced to purchase a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 platform. But is Sony concerned that this move and the cost of a new PlayStation 5 console could persuade some players to ditch consoles altogether in favor of a PC?

As reported by Automaton, a shareholders meeting recently featured PlayStation to comment on a possible trend that would lead to PlayStation’s console downfall. It was noted that Sony was asked whether they see more players decide to move to PC over the PlayStation 5. However, according to reports, Sony isn’t concerned about this possibility or even seeing a trend that remotely looks like more sales are being lost due to a desire for PC gaming over consoles.

Of course, it’s a solid question to raise, as the PlayStation 5 Pro was not cheap to introduce into the marketplace. It’s possible a consumer could look at the PlayStation 5 Pro and then consider opting for a more powerful PC that might eventually see some of the PlayStation exclusives slowly added to the platform.

At any rate, it doesn’t look like Sony is feeling the pressure over competing with the PC platform. We’ll have to see how the console does as we progress through this console generation lifecycle.

Meanwhile, we could get a few world premiere announcements tomorrow regarding new games that might make the PlayStation 5 a little more appealing. If you don’t recall, The Game Awards will be held tomorrow, and it will bring several new game announcements and potential updates to titles we’re waiting to get our hands on next year. But just like with any gaming event, we’re unsure what will be featured until the actual presentation kicks off.
