We now have news on the latest alleged leaks for Switch 2 hardware.
As reported by GoNintendo, a video has emerged of what are alleged to be the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons. Many sites are taking screencaps from the video, making them seem blurrier than they are in the original context.
However, the original video in Chinese site Bilibili demonstrates several features. For one, it seems to corroborate claims from a few months now that the Joy-Cons attach magnetically to the console.
In fact, we can visibly see the Joy-Cons literally snap into place when placed near the sides of the Switch 2. As a reminder, the most detailed and credible rumor we got on these came from Mobapad. The video game peripheral maker claimed last April that the controllers use electromagnetic suction to attach to the console.
Subsequently, the insides of the Joy-Cons show considerably larger SL and SR buttons. Mobapad made similar claims about these buttons as well.
While they aren’t visible, the video also claimed that Nintendo has expanded the IR camera that was originally only on bottom of the right Joy-Con. Both Joy-Cons now have IR cameras, and there is no longer a visible screen for them.
Lastly, there are two new buttons at the back of the Joy-Con, but their function isn’t known.
But there’s more updates straight from the source. Thanks to Adrien190303 on Twitter, we know that the Bilibili user claims that Nintendo hasn’t made enough stock of the Switch 2 to release them in March. Instead, they expect that the console will be released by May or June.
So that’s a lot to take in, and of course, we would know any more than you do which of these Switch 2 rumors, which are now contradicting each other, are true, and which ones are fake.
We did want to note a few things based on our prior reports. This video doesn’t tell us the size of the Switch 2, or its Joy-Cons, in the same way that Chinese YouTuber小宁子 XNZ did when she 3D-printed an alleged CAD image of the Switch 2 last September.
Interestingly enough, the rumor that the Switch 2 will be introduced in January 2025 and released in March 2025 came from Chinese social network Weibo.
There’s nothing surprising about Chinese gamers also being excited and interested in the Switch 2. Prior to this, we have been getting a lot of Switch 2 rumors from Brazilians like Necro Felipe and PH Brazil.
But we don’t know if there are really any credible sources for leaks in China, any more than if there are such sources in Brazil, Marrakesh, Portugal, Kuala Lumpur, or Aotearoa. You would think that if there are any places that would have this information, it would be Japan or the US.
But we’ll just have to wait and see who got the real knowledge and who was just spreading misinformation around within the next four months. We’re sure Nintendo’s own employees are enjoying watching all this, while they’re preparing their real plans for the Switch 2 announcement and launch.
