Today will be a very interesting day for those who have participated in a certain mobile title for a long time because today, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete is available for purchase. If you’re not familiar with what’s going on here, we’ll help explain it all. You see, Nintendo took its adorable life simulator and turned it into a mobile game focusing on camping. It ran the title for years, allowing players to grow and expand their campsite in various ways and raking in money via microtransactions. However, then Nintendo announced that it would make a shift by turning the game into a one-time payment title.
That title is Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete, which takes everything that the original mobile version has but gets rid of the microtransactions. All you have to do is pay $10 to get it, and you never have to pay another for it again. You can still get everything from the past within it, just without all the microtransaction struggles. Just as important, if you were playing the previous version of the title, you can use your My Nintendo account to transfer everything over to the complete version and thus continue camping without losing anything you got along the way. Admittedly, this is a bold move by Nintendo, which has been weening off of its “Mobile Initiative” for a while now, even with this title being one of the bigger profit makers of the bunch. It’s possible that with how long the original version of the game was out, people might be willing to play it now without microtransactions since there’s so much in-game content to enjoy. If that’s the case, and with a cost of just $10 to start, the company could quickly rake in money.
It’s also possible that Nintendo felt that the game was starting to “lose momentum” on the money side of things, and thus did this shift to see if they could get another jolt of revenue before needing to consider taking a step back from it. By all accounts, there won’t be that many updates to the title now that the complete version is out, outside of potentially some seasonal events.
Another thing to consider is that Nintendo might be prepping for the next game in the franchise, which will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the future.
