Tomorrow is the day, the PlayStation 5 Pro is being launched. That means that the reviews are out and the buying frenzy is about to begin. In fact, it has already begun PlayStation 5 Pro Disc Drives are already being scooped up at an alarming rate. Listings for these drives have started to appear and as you might imagine the prices are steep.
For those of you who don’t know, the PlayStation 5 Pro will retail at $700. However, that is without a stand or disc drive. This means users are tied to digital media unless they’re willing to shell out extra money. The PlayStation 5 Pro will allow users to add their own Disc drive if they wish. Which, this author feels is akin to McDonalds asking customers to bring their own potatoes if they want French fries. At the $700 price point, it feels a tad outrageous.
This brings us to a new conundrum, Scalpers have already set their sights on the PlayStation 5 Pro’s Disc Drives ahead of tomorrow’s launch. It would usually retail for just shy of $80 but there are already eBay listings for $150-$200. So, you could be in the hole for $850-$900 for a PlayStation Pro 5 that can play physical media. These prices could go up as the buying furor escalates.
Hopefully, Sony has put some safeguards in place to limit buyers to one unit, but that doesn’t always stop this sort of behaviour. So we can only remind you to hold out as long as possible and try to only purchase your PlayStation 5 Pro disc drives from accredited vendors.
