One of the best things about video games is that you can create special Easter Eggs for fans so they can potentially notice them. After all, the developers should have a bit of fun while making the title, too, right? In The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, numerous Easter Eggs refer to past titles in the franchise, even though the game is set in a new version of Hyrule. That being said, some people believe that there are a pair of characters who are named after two legendary former members of Nintendo: Satoru Iwata and Reggie Fils-Aime.
If you missed it, don’t worry; it’s not something that would’ve been totally obvious to you. When you go to the main watery area of Hyrule and meet the two versions of the Zora, which is in and of itself an Easter Egg, you’ll meet two characters named Inawa and Rogma, whose names are close to the Nintendo icons. This theory comes from The Gamer, and while it’s not a “perfect match” for the names, you can see where they’re coming from with this.
The point of these characters is that they’re trying to get their bosses to work together to save both of their domains and after meeting one another, they soon become best friends. That’s the kind of relationship that Satoru Iwata and Reggie Fils-Aime had as two heads of Nintendo. They came together to ensure that the company was working as best it could while also appealing to both the company’s investors and the numerous gamers who bought the games they made. The two were so close that they did the infinitely awesome and hilarious trailer where they “fought one another” before Iwata brought out a Mario Amiibo for help. Truly, they were two unique characters.
Even if this is just a coincidence versus anything else, it’s not a stretch to want this to be real, especially since Mr. Iwata passed away long ago, and many still miss Reggie despite him just being retired.
As noted, The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom has numerous references and Easter Eggs to past titles, including some that might not be so obvious. Characters from past titles show up, just with new forms or personalities, and then there are items that are directly pulled from past games, like statues of the goddess Hylia or a certain windmill that should be familiar to fans of this visual style, and so on.
