Not everything is obvious in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom — even Zelda’s most basic abilities can be used in ways you wouldn’t expect. Early in the game, you’ll gain the Bind magic. Using Bind causes Zelda to grab an enemy or object in the environment, and you can use it to solve all sorts of puzzles or move around your echoes. You can also use it for combat, for opening chests or for reaching new areas. Here’s a few tips to help you fully understand your Bind ability.

Using Bind To Open Treasure Chests
Bind isn’t just useful for fighting enemies or solving puzzles. We’ll explain more about using bind for dealing with monsters below, but there’s one important use for Bind you might not realize. It can pull chests out of the ground.
- How To Free Stuck Chests: Semi-buried chests are found all over Hyrule. One is in the very first dungeon and these chests contain valuable materials you don’t want to miss.
- To free these chests, press [X] to launch Bind to grab the chest. Once grabbed, back away until the chest is pulled free.
If you’ve played Tears of the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild, this technique might be pretty familiar to you. But for everyone else, you might not realize that you can pull chests free from the very start of the adventure.
Using Bind To Climb Walls
One of the trickiest ways to solve puzzles with Zelda is using the Bind’s Follow ability. After binding an object or enemy, you can hold down the Follow button to ‘lock’ Zelda to match whatever you’ve bound’s movement. And early in the game, there’s a way you can use this ability to climb tall walls.
- In Suthorn Prairie there’s a set of nine tall pillars with a Heart Piece on top. To reach the top of tall pillars or walls, summon a Crawltula and face it toward the wall you want to climb. Bind the echo and hold Follow — the Crawltula will climb up whatever direction it is facing and take Zelda up with it.
This can also be done in the northwest cave of Suthorn Prairie. Some players still haven’t figured out this little puzzle solution trick, and it’s a very clever way to climb ledges you might not be able to otherwise.
How To Defeat Wolfos & Other Tough Enemies
Enemies like the flying Guay, Wolfos or Crawltula can be annoyingly difficult for Zelda early in her adventure. But there are ways to make quick work of them if you’re using all your skills. Don’t waste your valuable Swordfighter meter. Here’s a simpler way to defeat these enemies and collect their echoes.
Enemies become much more difficult after leaving Suthorn Village and the forest area. In the north, Zelda will start encountering enemies that refuse to sit still — they run in circles, dodge your creature attacks, and are generally a huge nuisance. Normally you can run right past them, but sometimes you’ll need to fight.
To make fighting them easier, we can summon monsters and use Zelda’s powers. If you haven’t thought about using her magic, there are creative ways to defeat monsters.
- Using Bind To Fight:
- To stop a Wolfos or flying Guay from moving constantly, use the bind ability.
- Press [X] to launch Bind and trap any small enemy. Regular sized enemies can be grabbed and held in place, then moved freely.
- For Wolfos, you can grab with bind then summon any creature echo to destroy it. For Guay, wait for it to dive to the ground, then use bind. When near the ground, all of your echoes can defeat it.
Depending on the size of the monster, you can either trap them briefly or move them around. Enemies like Darknut or Moblins can’t be moved after they’re trapped, but that still makes them easier to defeat.
To make grabbing them easier, press [ZL] to target an enemy before binding them. You can also summon echoes while an enemy is bound without having to release them first. Binding is one of the best ways for defeating a single tough enemy.
