The upcoming title Sonic X Shadow Generations will include a remaster of Sonic Generations along with a brand-new story campaign starring Shadow as the playable character – something many fans of the franchise are excited to experience. During an interview at Tokyo Game Show, Shun Nakamura, the producer of the game, gave some insight into how long this campaign would be (via Famitsu).
“It depends on how you play, but I think the length of Shadow Generations is about the same as Sonic Generations, or maybe a little less,” Nakamura said. “If you play both, you’ll be busy for a while.”
It’s unclear whether Nakamura’s estimate is in regards to 100% runs or the main story path alone. The original title took about 20 hours to fully complete, while the main scenario took around six hours.
Last week, it was announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack DLC for Sonic X Shadow Generations would be included with the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, allowing fans to play as the film version of Shadow, voiced by Keanu Reeves. The DLC will also include a Tokyo area, as a portion of the upcoming film takes place in Japan’s capital city.
On the PlayStation Blog, Nakamura revealed that the movie pack content wasn’t initially known fully to the dev team, as they thought it would be hard to “mesh the worlds” together.
“This title has been developed to satisfy not just the Sonic game fans, but also those who see the Sonic movie and become fans of Sonic and Shadow for the first time. But of course, we didn’t expect to have Shadow from the movie included in this game, as the world for the movie and game are different – we thought that it would be challenging to do so.”
Sonic X Shadow Generations will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on October 25, 2024.
