The development studio Red Hook Studios is known for its roguelike horror game experience, Darkest Dungeon. The game was first released in 2016 and eventually spawned a sequel this year. Fans have been enjoying this game, in which they manage a team of characters as they clear out dungeons, fight off monsters, and manage their roster to ensure their stress level doesn’t become too cumbersome.
Behaviour Interactive has announced today that they have officially acquired Red Hook Studios. For those who might not be familiar with Behaviour Interactive, this is the development studio that has delivered the Dead by Daylight franchise into the marketplace. Thanks to Insider Gaming, we’re learning that the company took to X and unveiled that they have purchased Red Hook Studios, but they won’t completely dictate what the studio is working on going forward.
Instead, the focus is to allow Red Hook Studios to continue working independently. This enables Red Hook Studios to continue working on what they enjoy and know best. Meanwhile, the studio will have additional resources from Behaviour Interactive for future projects.
Meanwhile, Behaviour Interactive hasn’t had the most positive headlines lately. For instance, Behaviour Interactive attempted to branch out its Dead by Daylight IP. One of the video game titles that saw this expansion came from Supermassive Games. The Casting of Frank Stone was released earlier this month, and it offered a new take from Dead by Daylight IP. Players were getting an interactive horror drama experience, similar to what we had seen from Supermassive Games in the past. Unfortunately, this game failed to meet expectations and received average to mixed reviews.
Additionally, Behaviour Interactive just recently closed down Midwinter Entertainment. This studio was working on another spinoff from the Dead by Daylight IP but playtests proved that players were not enjoying the gameplay experience. As a result, the game was killed off, and the entire studio was shut down.
