Resident Evil 9 Not Likely To Show Up During State of Play Says Insider

September 24, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Will Resident Evil skip out from this evening’s State of Play?

There is never a shortage of rumors, leaks, or speculation in the video game industry. Tonight, we are going to get a new PlayStation State of Play event. This event will provide players with several new updates and announcements for both the PlayStation 5 and the PS VR2. However, one game you might not see highlighted during tonight’s stream is Resident Evil 9.

We have been waiting for Capcom to highlight the next Resident Evil game. After the remake of Resident Evil 4, there were several rumors about what was coming out next. One of the latest suggested that Capcom might not be as ambitious with their next two remake releases. Then there’s the wait to see what the next mainline installment to the Resident Evil franchise will bring.

Resident Evil Village ended the storyline arch for Ethan Winters, a protagonist introduced in Resident Evil 7. So, where the storyline will go next and who will take the lead are still mysteries. Today, we’re learning to dial back expectations thanks to Dusk Golem, an insider with a solid track record for the Resident Evil franchise. When PlayStation’s State of Play was unveiled for today, fans anticipated that Resident Evil 9 would get its first showcase.

To be 100% transparent, I neither from any of my sources or in the grapevine have heard any rumblings of Resident Evil 9 being revealed tomorrow. I'd love to be wrong & we get something on RE9, but I'm not personally suspecting it's time to be announced yet.

However, Dusk Golem noted that they have not heard anything regarding Resident Evil 9 being featured tonight. Of course, they are hopeful to be wrong and we do end up getting something announced, but at the moment, they are not expecting anything. That also extends to the next remakes.

A follower of Dusk Golem asked about the odds of seeing Resident Evil Code Veronica being unveiled. This is one of the games reportedly in the works for a remake, but Dusk Golem noted that this remake will be kept from the public for at least a few more years. That tells us that we’ll likely see the next storyline continuation for the franchise before another remake hits the marketplace.

We are not seeing Code Veronica Remake for a few years at least.

For now, all we can do is prepare for the State of Play event. We know that it will feature over twenty titles and be over thirty minutes in length, but what games will be featured is anyone’s guess right now.
