How Is God Of War Ragnarok Steam Deck Verified? Fans Are Confused After Some (Not All) Gamers Skip PSN Login

September 23, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

Did they even tell Valve they were going to get Steam Deck Verified?

There’s a strange thing going on with God of War Ragnarok on Steam.

Yes, we know that the release got mixed reviews from fans. It’s one of many PlayStation titles that are making their way to Steam. The release came with technical issues for many players, as well as the complaints you would expect about its massive filesize. As impressive as this game originally seemed on PlayStation, the PC release is surprisingly broken, and that’s disappointing.

But the issue we are talking about now is something we thought had been resolved already. Last August, Santa Monica Studio officially stated on the PlayStation Blog that this release requires a PSN account on PC. However, as reported by MP1st, some gamers are now claiming that they are able to bypass the PSN requirement completely.

YouTuber OhNoItsAlexx shared what information he could verify about this situation on Twitter:

“Just to clarify about the PSN Login requirement for GoW Ragnarok.

During my testing, my PSN was/is NOT connected/linked to Steam.  I was not even prompted to ‘Login’ to PSN on either my Desktop or Steam Deck.

Other friends were simply able to say “NO” and play the game.

I’m not sure why other people are seeing a login screen when I didn’t or why others say “No” to login their game will close.

This needs to be investigated and I’m not sure how to properly do so…”

And it was in the middle of this confusing scenario that Santa Monica Studio comes in with this very proud tweet:

“We are happy to confirm that God of War Ragnarök is VERIFIED on Steam Deck! Play the epic conclusion of the Norse Saga on your handheld device today!”

Sony and Santa Monica Studio never told us that they were even planning to get the game Steam Deck verified. While we were happily surprised by the announcement that Bioware’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard would be Steam Deck Verified, they took the time to explain this situation. That game isn’t even out yet.

Now, we will also add here that God of War Ragnarok also released on Epic Game Store, but those players have yet to go public on how this is working out on their end.

So all this really boils down to is Sony and Santa Monica Studio are being very confusing on this game right now. There are definitely a bunch of PC gamers who were looking forward to this release, and they’re all confused by this. Sony just needs to communicate to the fans right now so we can get that peace of mind we need.
