PlayStation 5 Pro Officially Revealed

September 10, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

The new model is set at $699.99.

Countless reports online suggested Sony would bring out a PlayStation 5 Pro model. We’ve seen it pop up unofficially over the past year, but it was just last week that reports really ramped up. Last week, we heard that Sony would have a big announcement coming our way, with the PlayStation State of Play coming later in the month.

Sony confirmed yesterday that today would feature a short PlayStation 5 hardware presentation. We didn’t know that this would be an official PlayStation 5 Pro model reveal, but it was all but confirmed that this would be the case. Mark Cenry hosted this presentation, and for those who are unaware, Mark is the lead architect on the PlayStation 5 console.

Mark offered a recap of what the PlayStation 5 initially brought to the gaming industry. From the internal components, the PS5 was able to bring new levels of realism and speed. However, after talking to the developers, the PlayStation team knew that they needed more to deliver a gameplay experience that doesn’t sacrifice performance for fidelity.

The new PlayStation 5 Pro improves in larger GPU with 45% faster rendering, advanced Ray Tracing, and new AI-driven upscaling to boost the effect of resolutions for games. Essentially, you’re getting nearly double the power with the latest model. An accompanied PlayStation Blog post also confirmed the PS5 Pro will come with Wi-Fi 7 and support VRR and 8K gaming.

To wrap up the presentation, we have the official price point and release date for the PlayStation 5 Pro. This new model will cost $699.99 and be available for consumers on November 7, 2024.

You can find the video embedded below if you missed out on the official PlayStation 5 technical presentation.
