Baldur’s Gate 3 PC Players Have Downloaded A Lot Of Mods Since New Patch’s Release

September 9, 2024 by Todd Black

Are you modding Baldur’s Gate 3?

There was a huge shake-up with Baldur’s Gate 3 last week, as Patch 7 released, and it granted players the “Mod Manager” tool, which let players find various mods that the community crafted and then directly install them into the game. Mods are a key part of PC culture, as they allow gamers to create special content for the title, including fixes that the developers wouldn’t get done for some time, so they can make their own gaming experiences more pronounced. If you’re wondering how big a reaction this got from players, we know for a fact that the response was quite large.

You don’t need to take our word for it, though. Instead, take the head of Larian Studios’ word for it. The patch came out on the 5th, and then early in the morning on the 7th, the CEO posted this:

Modding is pretty big – we had more than a million mods installed in less than 24 hours.

— Swen Vincke @where? (@LarAtLarian) September 7, 2024

That’s right, they had over a million downloads in less than 24 hours. But wait, there’s a twist. You see, the first comment below that tweet, which was made that same day, stated that there were over three million mods installed within the game since the feature was launched, and it was still growing! Given that it’s the 9th right now, it’s fair to say that the number likely has skyrocketed further.

For those who have the console version of Baldur’s Gate 3, the patch hasn’t been released for you just yet. So, when the Mod Manager arrives for you, you’ll be able to partake in the modding greatness that the PC crowd is already partaking in.

Just as important, with this now available on PC and the community reacting to it in bulk, this will likely encourage others to make their own mods and attempt to join the community’s love for modding. Remember, modding can be as big or as small as one wants to make it. They could make something as simple as a different outfit for someone like Karlach or Astarion, or they could attempt to fix something within the gameplay that has been bugging them endlessly.

Or, as one specific mod revealed, they can open up the entire game’s dev code to players so that they can attempt to finish the “lost content” of the title! While that may seem massive in scope, gamers have done it before with other franchises, so why not this one?

So, if you haven’t taken part in the modding madness yet, you might want to see how many people download your work!
