In August, it was announced that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA would host RGG Summit 2024 on September 20, with the broadcast likely featuring the newest information about the future of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news about Yakuza Wars, a mysterious title trademarked by SEGA in July. Ahead of the summit, it appears that more about the game has appeared online.
X user Knoebel recently spotted a Facebook page for the upcoming game, which appears to be aimed at Chinese players. While some fans of the series previously thought the game would be coming to console, it appears to exclusively be a mobile game.
“SEGA‘s first officially licensed Like a Dragon mobile game is a brand new, classic gangster-themed masterpiece for mobile phones, creating innovative strategic war gameplay,” the game’s description reads. “Here, you can fight side by side with classic characters such as Kiryu Kazuma, Kasuga Ichiban, and Majima Goro, and write your own legendary story in the Yakuza underworld.”
It’s unclear what the gameplay of Yakuza Wars will look like, though more details will likely be shared later this month. In July, Ryu Ga Gotoku teased that the studio’s next game would be something fans won’t expect. “We can’t tell you what kind of game it is, but I will tell you, you’ll be surprised,” the team said at this year’s Anime Expo.
The Yakuza game series began in 2005 with Yakuza for the PlayStation 2. The most recent game in the franchise, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, was released in January 2024 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
