The 7.0 update for Final Fantasy XIV brought the title’s first graphical upgrade since the game’s release in 2013, improving the game’s textures, hair, grass, shadows, reflections, and everything in between. According to the game’s director and producer Naoki Yoshida, however, this is just the beginning, as more changes are on the way in future patches.
“While we’ve received a lot of praise and seen some impressive screenshots, we’ve also received a fair number of comments regarding issues with the finer details of character models,” Yoshida said in a new blog post. Continuing on, the producer chooses to focus on player character models, which have been approved of by many, but have also frustrated some.
It looks like some changes are coming as soon as patch 7.1, addressing bears and scars appearing lighter on certain skin tones and face types and Au Ra scales having rough silhouettes. Additionally, eyelashes and eyebrows will be tweaked.
“In the future, we will look into adding more character creation options, among other things. It will be a long-term undertaking, but we will continue in our efforts,” Yoshida promised.
The next Final Fantasy Live Letter is set to take place at Tokyo Game Show 2024 on September 28. The stream will detail everything coming in patch 7.1.
The Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, released on July 2, brought a level cap boost from 90 to 100, a new playable race, two new DPS classes, new cities, new dungeons and raids, a new limited job, and an entirely new story arc.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
