Bloodborne is finally coming to PC, but it won’t be from PlayStation Studios.
As reported by Tech4Gamers, Bloodborne development on PC has sped up considerably. Rather, emulators have ramped up on improvements to run the game on the PlayStation 4 emulator ShadPS4.
When the ShadPS4 devs started work on Bloodborne compatibility, the game could barely run on 15 FPS. They improved performance by dropping graphics and textures.
However, the latest videos demonstrating the game show that most of the graphical bugs and issues have been fixed. They also demonstrate that sound is working, and that they can even play up to the final DLC boss.
And now, we can already cite a Bloodborne release of sorts. As reported by DSOGaming, a modder with the handle fromsoftserve has released a texture pack for the game. Now, fromsoftserve admitted that these textures were generated via AI. So we imagine this won’t look exactly right for fans who have played the game, but it’s still a sign that development is progressing.
You may remember that this was not the first such effort to try to get Bloodborne on PC via emulation. We reported on progress in emulating the game on a different emulator, RPCSX, over a year ago. But the update on ShadPS4 are more promising, as they have gotten farther than RPCSX’s team has.
Subsequently, ShadPS4 have also been updating more rapidly, and in a short amount of time. So it’s genuinely believable that they can officially declare full compatibility for Bloodborne soon. DSOGaming states that RPCSX may have an announcement of their own soon, so the verdict is still out on who will win this specific rat race.
We would be remiss not to bring up the rumor that there is a new Bloodborne game project in development. Even if ShadPS4 and RPCSX get to full compatibility with the game, if Sony makes a remake or remaster, gamers are going to play that version over trying to get it to run on emulators.
But that rumor may not really lead to anything. FromSoftware seems to be busy with other things, and Sony is throwing their money around on different projects too. It still seems more likely that fans will be playing an emulated version of this game than for Sony to finish and release this rumored new Bloodborne game project.
It certainly says something about the state of the industry now that Sony won’t even entertain the idea that they bring the game back in any way. Is it really true that Sony misplaced Bloodborne’s game code? In any case, this is a situation where the fans are literally going to do their own wish fulfillment now.
