Despite being released almost two years ago, Devolver Digital and Massive Monster are still releasing new content for Cult of the Lamb. The indie roguelite has maintained a hefty fanbase, and the upcoming Unholy Alliance update is adding a feature many players have wanted since the beginning: local co-op.
Available for free to all players on August 12, Unholy Alliance will introduce the Goat, a new ally to join the Lamb in local co-op play. “Together, this unholy pair can indulge in new two-player twists on existing minigames like fishing and Knucklebones, as well as discovering and equipping a selection of corrupted weapons, tarot cards, curses, and relics to aid them on their epic cooperative crusades,” a post on the PlayStation blog reads.
Additionally, the new update will add two new structures to build: a nursery and a Knucklebones arena. Players will be able to play the game once a day against their followers, with the difficulty of each match related to their level. If a player wins, their opponent will instantly level up.
Crusades will be more varied with the Unholy Alliance update, and players can look forward to finding new relics and tarot cards as they explore.
Cult of the Lamb is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Released in August 2022, the title sold one million copies in its first week, and also won Best Indie Game at the Golden Joystick Awards in 2022 and Game of the Year at the Australian Game Developer Awards the same year.
