One thing we love seeing from the video game community over and over again is the passion they have to make the titles they play even more fun and interesting than the developers intended. Mods are something that has been going on for some time, even tracing back to some of the first PC shooters back in the 90s, and things have only gotten more advanced since those days. As a result, people are always trying to put clever spins on titles that just came out, and that includes Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door! So what mod was added here? Well, there are a few already out.
One was for a feature that many fans are already asking for. Currently, the Switch version of Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door runs at 30FPS. But thanks to a mod, someone got it running a 60FPS. The phrase, “That was quick!” truly applies here. However, the one we want to highlight comes from a user who was able to shift the Mario walk cycle within the game and turn it into a dance move:
Yep, they got Mario to “do the griddy!” Even the people in the comment section were impressed because of how fast they were able to get it up. Is it the most important or epic mod ever made? No, that’d probably go to the person who transformed a dragon into a classic wrestler in a key Bethesda title, but this one is cool, too!
It highlights players’ creativity and their desire to do something that goes beyond the norm and makes something fun. Who hasn’t wanted to try to make Mario dance and do certain moves just because they can? That’s the beauty of mods! If you have the ability and the patience, you can shift games into just about anything you want.
For example, a recent mod that we also found interesting transformed Helldivers 2 into The Clone Wars! They changed the armors of the characters, the ships that are dropping off the players, and even some of the monsters to look like the prequel titles. The effort it must have taken to make all that happen is incredible, and that’s why we can’t help but love mods.
We also appreciate that there are companies who openly welcome mods like these, as they know it’s a great way to connect the community together and build up the hype around their titles even further.
