As we all know, when it comes to fighting game characters, while it’s awesome to see their “unveiling” trailer, we also want to see what they can do within the fighting game itself. That’s why a gameplay section to show their skills is vital. For Multiversus, they dropped a reveal trailer for The Joker last week, showcasing not only his design for the crossover fighting title but also that the one and only Mark Hamill would indeed voice him. Today, however, they dropped a gameplay trailer in hilarious fashion, showing why it’s quite dangerous to “send in the clowns.”
First, let’s talk about the overall gameplay feel of the Clown Prince of Crime. As predicted, his attacks are both familiar to fans and a bit “toned down” to fit the feel of Multiversus. For example, you will see him use his acid flower, but it doesn’t melt any of the combatants. We also see him using things like an umbrella, a pogo stick, and even a Rocket Launcher to help do damage to foes.
As for his visuals, we got to see The Joker from multiple perspectives, including him in the three different outfits that he’ll have within the fighting game. The first one is the “classic look,” and then a slightly more stylized look from a previous age. Finally, we got the infamous “Batman Who Laughs” version of the character, which is curious for a very specific reason.
That “reason” is that this character technically isn’t Joker, but a version of Batman that got exposed to a special toxin by The Joker and got “fused” with him in a weird way. Trust us, it’d take far too long to explain. Either way, that costume is in the game, too.
Another key thing that they showed was that Joker would have some dialogue with Harley Quinn if you team up with her in 2v2 gameplay. That’s important because Harley’s voice actress is none other than Tara Strong, who has played Harley Quinn to Mark Hamill’s Joker several times, including in the Rocksteady games.
As you would expect from a trailer like this, the video has plenty of Easter Eggs for you to enjoy, including a sort of “Joker-style tribute” to the late Kevin Conroy. For those who are fans of Batman and Joker, you’ll want to see all that is within that opening segment and then be ready for when the Joker arrives when the game relaunches on May 28th.
