Earlier this month, the upcoming Shadows of the Damned remake got an official title, and one fitting for its tongue-in-cheek vibes: Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered. Due to hit shelves sometime in 2024, fans of the original 2011 title are eager to return to the bizarre world of Garcia Hotspur. Apparently, the game’s writer Suda51 is also extremely interested.
During an interview at this past weekend’s PAX East 2024, Suda noted that he’d love to make a sequel if Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered does well financially.
“Putting out a sequel is definitely something we would like to consider,” he said. “So, make sure you buy as many copies as you can find in the stores.”
Although a full-blown sequel sounds like Suda’s goal, he also discussed the possibility of characters from the game appearing in something else if things don’t go exactly to plan.
“I do have a soft spot in my heart for the characters in the game, specifically Garcia Hotspur and Fleming,” Suda said. “With Fleming, in particular, I strongly considered adding him to No More Heroes 3 and giving him a major role. Having these characters come out in something again, whether it’s a sequel or something else, is highly possible.”
Shadows of the Damned follows Mexican demon hunter Garcia Hotspur as he visits the City of the Damned to fight against the forces of evil to save his girlfriend Paula after she’s captured by Fleming, the Lord of Demons. The title was influenced by the UK punk rock band The Damned, who also contributed some music to the original game.
Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2024.
