In February 2020, Mike Laidlaw, the former creative director of the Dragon Age franchise, co-founded the independent studio Yellow Brick Games in Quebec City, Canada. Today, a teaser trailer for the company’s debut title was revealed, with more information set to be released next month.
The game—a fantasy action-adventure title—was initially scheduled to be published by Private Division. However, Yellow Brick Games has now announced that it will self-publish the game sometime in 2025.
“We are thrilled to share this exciting news with our community. Self-publishing is a leap of faith, especially in the current turbulent industry climate, but it’s also an opportunity to take our destiny into our own hands and reach out directly to players and the wider gaming community during this release,” said Chief Creative Officer Mike Laidlaw.
“Our team has been hard at work for years, and we can’t wait to showcase our debut project to the world. It’s a huge milestone for us, and we see it as just the first step on what we hope will be a long and rewarding journey for the company, charting our own path, and growing our talents and products brick by brick.”
Yellow Brick Games was co-founded by industry veterans Thomas Giroux, Jeff Skalski, and Frédéric St-Laurent B. All three previously worked at Ubisoft on games like Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
“We see this change in a very positive light as we now fully control our studios’ ambitions, and the scope of our game remains unchanged. The player experience will always be our primary indicator of success. Showing the world our project and building an authentic bond with our community is the next exciting step in our journey,” said Thomas Giroux, the CEO of Yellow Brick Games.
