Jack Black is highly known for his role in many different popular movies, one of them being his role as Bowser in the Super Mario Bros Movie starring Chris Pratt. Recently, Black took to social media to ask the question of why Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption don’t have movies yet in this day and age after the video games popularity.
The famous actor said this in an interview with Total Film where he said, “I can’t believe they haven’t already started making a movie of any of the Rockstar Games–Grand Theft Auto, but especially Red Dead Redemption.”
He went on to add that he believes GTA and RDR games are already like movies. “Some video games are already halfway there to telling those kind of stories, and there are some movies that are like video games,” Black added.
As for further information regarding what Rockstar thinks about it, they haven’t spoken out or said anything, but Take-Two’s CEO – who is the parent company – has said something about it instead. Strauss Zelnick expressed that the company would like to fund something like a GTA or RDR movie but that they would need to have it done a certain way in order for it to work.
“Part of it is, if we were to do something like that, we’d want to have complete creative control to make sure we expressed GTA in the way we wanted–and that would mean we’d need to finance that motion picture,” Zelnick said. “While we have the balance sheet to do it, we don’t have the corporate expertise to do it, because only a handful of people inside Take-Two have ever worked in that business. I’m one of them. But that’s not what we do for a living.”
So for now, we still aren’t getting a GTA or RDR movie, but it does seem Jack Black would be excited to star in yet another video game movie.
