Remedy Planning More Regular Sequels for Alan Wake

March 20, 2024 by Carley Garcia

The company is also hard at work on the Max Payne 1+2 remake.

Tero Virtala, the CEO of Remedy Entertainment, has made it clear that upcoming Alan Wake sequels will be coming out more steadily. The original game was released in 2010, but Alan Wake 2 didn’t hit the market until October 2023.

“With Alan Wake and Control, we now have two established franchises, and our ambition is to grow them into franchises that have high brand recognition, steadily growing user base, more regular cadence of sequels and an ability to generate revenues and profits at a high level,” the CEO said.

Alan Wake 2 is currently Remedy’s fastest-selling game, selling over 1.3 million copies by February 2024. The survival horror game won multiple awards, including the Critics Choice Award at the Golden Joystick Awards and Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2023.

Virtala also voiced his desire to develop more games in the Control series going forward, assuring fans that Control 2 is in the world-building stage. A co-op multiplayer game in the Control universe is also in development.

Currently, Remedy is also hard at work on the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake. The original games were released in 2001 and 2003, respectively.

“Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake also continued in the production readiness stage. The team made considerable progress throughout the year. Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake is going to be a major new game with great potential, enabled by a similar development budget as Alan Wake 2,” Virtala said. He confirmed that the game will reach the next stage of development during the first half of 2024.

In 2023, Remedy saw a 22.2% decline in revenue despite Alan Wake 2 being a critical and commercial success.
