As of right now, February is a month of “anticipation” for Nintendo fans across the board. Most believe that a Nintendo Direct is coming this week or next and could reveal the “final big games” that the Switch will have before its successor is announced sometime in 2024. Then, based on past experiences, The Pokemon Company would later drop a Pokemon Presents to highlight upcoming content for their beloved franchise via Pokemon Day. The problem? Neither company has made any announcements about anything, which has left fans both sad and anxious. However, one rumor says The Pokemon Company will present something this month.
This “information” comes from a Spanish source called Universo Nintendo. The catch is that they only state that a Pokemon Presents is coming this month. That’s it. Not exactly “groundbreaking reporting,” but you can’t always get what you want, right? So, thinking this is true, what would be at the event?
The easiest answer is one that has been building up on rumor sites for a while. Specifically, that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will get more DLC content. “The Hidden Treasure of Areas Zero” came out in two parts last year, in September and December, and helped reveal new parts of the Pokemon world while allowing fans to get more of the Pokemon they couldn’t catch via the main title. While they were fraught with bugs, much like the main game, many considered them fun. Thus, another DLC adventure isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
The second “obvious” thing we could get is a remaster/remake of Pokemon Black and White. This one has also been rumored for a while and builds off The Pokemon Company’s efforts to keep bringing back past generations for modern gamers. Gen IV got its remaster during the Switch era, so they could announce Gen V’s return for the Switch successor’s first year or so.
Another option is to get many updates on mobile titles that The Pokemon Company has been doing, and we all know how much they love their mobile games.
However, one last option revolves around their other big Switch hit of 2022, Pokemon Legends Arceus. That game was incredibly successful and opened up new options for the franchise. Given that, it’s not a stretch to think that another game in the line could be made for another region and, more specifically, for another Pokemon that didn’t get a grand storyline in the main games.
Pokemon Day is February 27th, so keep an eye out for any announcements!
