Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was obviously a huge game in 2023 and instantly set records for the PS5 when it arrived. It legitimately was the best-selling 1st party title the platform ever had, selling millions in just its first day, and fans were blown away by how good the sequel title was. However, while the main story is “done, that doesn’t mean there isn’t more coming, and Sony seems to be teasing something ahead of the State of Play that will debut later today. As you’ll see in the tweet below, Sony teased a studio adorned with items from the Spider-Men, including their suits and numerous references to New York.
There’s also a table that reads “Creator To Creator, ” which could mean many things. Most people hope to hear that there will be an announcement of the DLC content for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as well as other insights into what’s coming, like the New Game+ mode promised by Insomniac Games last year. We don’t know for sure that everything will be announced today; however, it’s clear that something is coming because even the tweet says “coming soon.”
There are many reasons why gamers think that the title will get DLC content. First off, the original game had a substantial DLC story via “The City That Never Sleeps.” That content brought forth Black Cat, who caused all sorts of problems for Peter Parker, not the least of which was because of her connection to the villain Hammerhead, who was also brought in for the DLC. There were even smaller stories birthed via the DLC that led into the sequel that was released in October.
The other main reason why fans think DLC is coming is because there were significant leaks at Insomniac Games via a hacking attempt that showed that the company was working on several projects at once, including possibly a Venom spinoff game! That was partly backed up by how voice actor Tony Todd did all sorts of lines for Venom, but only 10% of them were used in the main game.
So the teases and breadcrumbs are all there; it’s just a matter of what will be announced and how the company will present things this time. While it’s true that “The City That Never Sleeps” was eventful, and everyone loved their version of Black Cat, not everyone liked the story and the 3-part structure. Only time will tell if they take a different approach this time.
