Devs Says Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Will Feature Open-Area Maps

January 19, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

The game will have a mix of linear and open-area maps.

Fans who were eagerly awaiting new information to emerge on the MachineGames Indiana Jones title were finally treated to a deep dive yesterday. We got our first look into the upcoming title during the Xbox Developer Direct. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle had a decent showcase where we got our first look into the gameplay and even some narrative storyline premise. While we’re still waiting for the official release date to be finalized, the new website hosted under Bethesda unveils more details on what we can expect from this game.

For those who missed out, this game is set in 1937 between the films Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. Stepping into the role of Indiana Jones, you’re getting ready for a brand new adventure that will unveil a new ancient power discovery set around the globe. So far, we know we will be venturing through the heart of the Vatican, the pyramids of Egypt, and even the sunken temples of Sukhothai, so expect quite the varied detail environments and set pieces. But as you can imagine, this game is mainly a linear experience.

The developers have noted that players will get a linear narrative-driven experience. But for those of you who like the ability to explore a bit, there are said to be some open-area maps. Just how open these maps are is still a mystery for us. But if you’re a fan of the films, you know that Indiana Jones spends a good amount of time exploring areas, seeking out traps, and solving puzzles. With that said, don’t expect too much of an open-world experience; it sounds like we will be contained in some smaller open-area sections.

Again, we’re still waiting on more information to come out, but since we just received the reveal trailer yesterday, it might be a good little while before more marketing materials come out. Fortunately, we do know that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to launch at some point this year. You’ll find the game available on Xbox Series X/S and the PC platform when it is released. However, since this is a first-party Microsoft title, you’ll also find the game available through the Game Pass subscription service. While we wait for more marketing materials to come out, you can check out the game trailer embedded below. Meanwhile, for those of you who want to catch the entire Xbox Developer Direct, you can find the video of the stream right here.
