Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League Gets Big Preview From PlayStation

January 9, 2024 by Todd Black

A “Killer” Preview?

To say there’s plenty of uncertainty around Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League is an understatement of the highest order. Initially, gamers were excited when the title from Rocksteady was announced during the original DC Fandome when the pandemic was happening. Rocksteady had proven itself, more-or-less, with a certain trio of titles featuring the Dark Knight, and they were curious about what would happen when they brought the infamous Suicide Squad to life for video games. But the more insight we got into the title, the more gamers were scratching their heads and wondering what this game would be like.

Today, the PlayStation Blog dropped a huge preview for Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League and brought in members of Rocksteady to talk about what the gameplay would feel like in the players’ hands.

For example, since you’re playing four different members of the Suicide Squad, and each one is different from the next, you’ll get tutorials on how to work with them and break out their best moves. One thing you’ll notice, according to Rocksteady, is that there is a “seamless” styling to it all:

“It’s not traversal and combat,” noted Rocksteady Advanced Combat Designer Noel Chamberlain during the preview. “They’re both really intertwined…everything is seamless.”

While that sounds cool, that has been one of the things that has worried fans during the videos and trailers. While it’s interesting to think of the Suicide Squad bounding through Metropolis from one mission to the next, that’s not really what they do in the comics and other media. They’re not Batman, who has a reason to ‘glide around without a care in the world,’ and so even if it’s “seamless,” it doesn’t mean it’s fun.

One thing gamers can take heart in is that the cinematics will be pretty and have good voice acting, which will feature all sorts of hilarious dialogue from the Squad:

“They (Suicide Squad) are brash, impulsive, mean, argumentative and rude,” said Project Manager Jack Hackett. “And normally when you’re behaving like that in a game you feel like you’re breaking the rules…but with the squad you can be as mean or silly as you like and it all fits the story.”

The preview ended with a look at the boss fight with The Flash. The encounter will feature you charging up a weapon to counter his Speed Force abilities and then shooting him down over time.

Whether things line up as “rosily” as this preview and Rocksteady want gamers to think is up in the air. But we’ll find out either way on February 2nd.
