Hideo Kojima Says OD Will Be A Very Different Game

January 4, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Get ready for something unexpected.

There are quite a few iconic game developers that have gained a massive following worldwide. One of those iconic developers is Hideo Kojima, who has had his hand in several titles and franchises. Since their departure from Konami, it seems Kojima can really flex his creative muscles. What came to fruition after his leave from Konami was Death Stranding, which had its own unique gameplay experience. But expect things to be even more out there when Hideo Kojima releases his next new IP, OD, into the marketplace.

Hideo Kojima has a couple of projects in the works right now. We know that he’s working on Death Stranding 2, a sequel to keep the storyline going from Kojima Productions’ debut title. However, beyond that, we know that Hideo teamed up with Xbox to deliver a new game called OD. We know next to nothing about OD. Before this game was unveiled, it seemed Hideo met with a few companies to see about turning his idea into a reality. However, it wouldn’t be until meeting with Microsoft that they found the ability to make the necessary technology to help develop this title.

It seems I have been acknowledged by creating games that go against the current of the times, such as "hide-and-seek" games where you sneak into a building without being detected by the enemy, or "delivery games" where you enjoy moving around in an open world, For me, the most…

We’re still in the dark here about what to expect with OD, but there was a recent trailer. During The Game Awards 2023, we had a brief glimpse into the game with a teaser. Now, the trailer didn’t offer much of anything here. Although, it does look like there was an Easter egg that references Silent Hill from the teaser. At any rate, we can expect this to be a different kind of game. That’s according to Hideo Kojima, who took to the X social media account to make a small reference to OD.

During the post, Hideo noted that he has been known for delivering some different kind of gameplay experiences. There was even a reference to Boktai, a game that launched on the Game Boy Advanced, where players actually used a built-in sensor to use sunlight as a means to help defeat enemies. Using that as a reference, Hideo is telling fans that OD will be just as different. Again, we’re left without much insight right now about what this game will entail. Hopefully, 2024 doesn’t wrap without some new clues as to what we might get with this new IP, but we’ll just have to sit tight and let Hideo Kojima cook.
