Ace Attorney Producer Would Be Up For Detective Pikachu Crossover?

December 12, 2023 by Todd Black

Anyone want to raise an “OBJECTION!”?

Let’s be honest about something: when it comes to video games, crossovers aren’t just something that happens; there are games that pride themselves on doing crossovers big and small with titles to get clout and other gamers to try out their franchise. We all know of a certain title from Epic Games that loves its crossovers, and it’s hardly the only one. But when it comes to games that take a more in-depth approach to crossovers, sometimes there are “matches” that no one sees coming. For example, have you ever considered Ace Attorney doing a crossover with Detective Pikachu?

That might seem random, but this idea comes from one of the producers of the Ace Attorney franchise. Specifically, Kenichi Hashimoto talked with Nintenderos and noted the following about this crossover idea:

“While we have no plans to do so, I personally think a crossover with Pokémon would be fun – Detective Pikachu would be a perfect fit!”

That certainly would be an interesting way to bring the franchises together, and it wouldn’t be the first crossover that either franchise has had. Phoenix Wright had a legendary crossover that brought him together with Professor Layton and fused the court case and puzzle-themed gameplay mechanics of both titles together rather well.

As for the games featuring Detective Pikachu, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that he would be a “good fit” as another partner to Phoenix Wright or Apollo Justice. The only question would be how these two universes would come together. We ask that because Phoenix Wright does deal with the supernatural at times with his games, but there are no Pokemon in his universe, and while some Pokemon are supernatural in nature, they don’t go to the lengths that Capcom’s franchise does.

That being said, there are Pokemon who are known to be able to travel across dimensions and even breach the multiverse. As a result, you could do a crossover game where one such Pokemon causes a rift between dimensions, and Phoenix Wright, along with one of his companions, happens to come through it. They meet with Detective Pikachu and Tim Goodman and have to work together to figure out which Pokemon did the deed and how they can get them back home.

While this may seem like a “wild goose chase” of a crossover, it’s important to remember that Capcom and Nintendo are on very good terms, and with a new console on the way, Nintendo would be up for working with Capcom to make some interesting titles for it.
