If you’re after news for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake that was unveiled a few years ago, you’re in for some disappointment. That’s at least according to one industry insider who has had a strong track record. Jeff Grubb recently offered a statement during the Giant Bomb podcast where he mentioned Embracer Group and their Star Wars remake. If you don’t recall, it was just yesterday that reports started to come out online regarding Embracer Group’s CEO being asked for an update on the remake progress.
Unfortunately, if you were hopeful about receiving some positive news, you were out of luck. The Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors only stated that his comments made headlines anytime he mentioned Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. That’s the only mention he gave regarding the remake. Today, Jeff Grubb noted that he’s positive that no one is working on the project in any capacity. Initially, the game project was being handled by Asypr before it was exchanged development hands to Saber Interactive.
From there, it’s uncertain if another studio was approached to take over the project. However, it’s been kept under wraps since. There have been no updates, and even Sony has taken it upon themselves to remove marketing materials on social media that featured Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Still, it might have left some fans hopeful that Embracer Group is going to bring this game out. If Jeff is to be believed, there’s no hope right now that we’ll see the remake come out into the marketplace. Furthermore, it’s also left a discussion regarding what the future of Embracer Group could entail.
Embracer Group went on a spending spree, picking up studios and IPs, but it could be that this company bit off more than it can chew. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake and Embracer Group. At the very least, fans of the game can still enjoy the classic release, with most platforms offering the game digitally. It might be a bit dated, but you can at least see why this game was such a cherished hit and welcomed surprise when a remake was initially revealed.
