Doom’s Open Beta Gets a New Trailer

April 11, 2016 by Mitchell Saltzman

A new trailer for Doom’s upcoming open beta gives a glimpse of the violence in store for players on April 15

The Doom open beta is nearly upon us, and to get the denizens of hell ready, Bethesda has released a new trailer highlighting some of the death and destruction that awaits players once April 15 rolls around.

The open beta will run from April 15-17, featuring two modes for players to try: Team Deathmatch and Warpath. The beta also gives a bit of insight into the game’s player progression mechanics, which has players leveling up much like they would in a Call of Duty game in order to gain access to new weapons, gear, emotes, and so on.

While team deathmatch is fairly self-explanatory, the warpath mode is a new take on King of the Hill, except the proverbial hill will actually move around the map along a marked path. On the opposite side of the capture point there is a powerful pentagram power up that will transform a player into a revenant, making players choose whether to try and control the point, or fight over the powerup that has a good chance of swinging the momentum.

Revenants are also present in team deathmatch as a respawning power-up, much like quad damage. Both teams will be informed when and where the power up spawns, leading to intense battles where players fight for control of the revenant. Revenants can be killed, but their power will be dropped for another player to pick up, making it important to always stick close to your revenant to pick up the rebound in case the power up is dropped.

For a full look at what’s offered in the beta, have a look at the breakdown below:

  • Maps: Heatwave and Infernal
  • Game Modes: 6v6 Team Deathmatch and Warpath
  • Demon: Revenant
  • Weapons: Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Super Shotgun, Vortex Rifle, Static Rifle, Heavy Assault Rifle, and Lightning Gun
  • Power Weapons: Gauss Cannon
  • Equipment: Frag Grenade, Personal Teleporter, Siphon Grenade

Doom will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on May 13. Pre-loading for the open beta will begin on all platforms on April 12. For more on the open beta, you can read the detailed FAQ here
