What’s the biggest mistake you’ve made recently? Don’t be afraid to share. We’ve all made mistakes that have been of a certain vein or style in the last week or so. But we hope that no matter your mistake, it was a “minor one” and not one that really upset people. For example, Insomniac Games have been praised for their dedication to the lore of the Spider-Men in their titles and have been equally praised for how they’ve been portrayed. So you can understand why the fans were upset when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 made an error of rather large proportions.
In this case, when you played the game in a certain section, you got to explore Miles Morales’ home, where you could very easily see a flag on the wall. As gamers noticed, it was a Cuban flag. Why is that a problem? Miles and his mother, Rio, are Puerto Rican! Oops. Yeah, when people found that out, they immediately called out Insomniac for the mistake, especially since the dev team had made a Spider-suit for Miles that had an accurate Puerto Rican flag styling to it. Thus, it was confusing that they could make something so cool and yet still make this error. After all, they did have to playtest it to ensure that the section of the game worked, and NO ONE noticed that it was the wrong flag. Like we said, “Oops.”
Thankfully, the response from Insomniac Games was immediate, and they said they would fix it. Today, a patch for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 went out, and in a tweet, Insomniac apologized for the error and noted how it was wrong to have made the mistake:
Just to be clear, there were OTHER errors fixed in the game outside of the flag issue, such as certain models not loading or errors with some of the other suits.
Even with those problems, the game is still one of the best of the year by many metrics. Just on its first day, it sold 2.5 million copies on PS5. Why is that significant? Because it makes it the fastest-selling title in PlayStation Studios history. That’s very impressive, and it shows how much faith fans had in the Insomniac Games crew to deliver a sequel surpassing what the original PS4 game did.
One of the big questions for Insomniac Games now is whether they bring in DLC like they did for the first title. It is possible, but only time will tell.
