It looks like your adventure into Moria’s depths on PlayStation 5 will be pushed back until the end of this year. The Lord of the Rings has always had a strong fan base, but there has been a resurgence as of late. Thanks to the Amazon Prime series, fans have a prequel to the cinematic films with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. However, the more recent attempt to bring out a smash hit video game to capitalize on this newfound hype failed to deliver. I’m referring to The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which received terrible reviews from both critics and players. This is a title to avoid, and hopefully, the next title release for the franchise, The Lord of the Rings: Return To Moria, won’t see the same fate.
If you don’t recall, The Lord of the Rings: Return To Moria is coming from the folks over at Free Range Games. This title puts players into the role of a dwarf who beckons the call from Lord Gimli Lockbearer. Set after the events of the novels and cinematic films, Gimli has taken it upon himself to return to the Misty Mountains. His goal will be to reclaim their lost homeland of Moria. We know that ages ago, the dwarves were forced to leave their lands, which gets played out in the Amazon Prime series. But now we’re going back and returning Khazad-dum to its former glory.
Today, we’re finding out that thanks to Gematsu, the PC version of the game has gone gold; this means you can expect it to release on Epic Games Store this October 24, 2023. However, taking to X, the developers have noted the PlayStation 5 version of the game was delayed. The new release date for those on the PlayStation 5 platform is December 5, 2023. While it wasn’t specifically stated the issues developers are facing, oftentimes, we don’t have specifics from these delay announcements. Instead, the developers only noted that they wanted additional time to improve different aspects. That would ultimately bring out a better overall experience for players.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t anything noted about the Xbox Series X/S version of this game. With that said, there is an Xbox Series X/S planned release. However, it’s not set to happen until sometime in 2024. If you haven’t been keeping tabs on this game, players are getting a survival-crafting experience. You’ll create a custom dwarf and head into a procedurally generated mine from Moria. It’s within these mines that you will need to scavenge precious resources and gear. However, you’ll need to monitor your vitals to ensure your character doesn’t perish in the depths below.
