Mortal Kombat 1’s Latest Nintendo Switch Patch Brings The Fixes Fans Want

October 12, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

The patch also comes with the addition of Invasions mode.

NetherRealm Studios has released the latest patch for Mortal Kombat 1 on the Nintendo Switch, and it arrives with the promise that they’re finally addressing all the issues fans have with the game.

As reported by Nintendo Everything, this latest patch comes with all these changes in the patch notes:

  • Season 1 of Invasions
  • Gameplay balance changes
  • Leaderboard fixes
  • Visual improvements and general bug fixes
  • Performance improvements
  • Loading time improvements
  • Stability fixes
  • Localization fixes

The last patch prior to this was from September 27. For today, NetherRealm published their patch for the Nintendo Switch only.

As we had reported last month, the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 received a ton of criticism from fans for the many issues it came with. While the graphics reached memetic levels of notoriety, there were also problems with the game’s performance, and various bugs that popped up.

The game launched with such serious problems that Mortal Kombat co-creator and current development lead Ed Boon went on record to promise that NetherRealm would fix these issues. And this was the bare minimum consumers would expect from him and NetherRealm, because Switch owners were also paying full price for this game.

Now, Nintendo Switch owners are not naïve. They have been getting other Mortal Kombat releases as well, and understand that the Switch versions of these games won’t look as good as on other platforms.

However, this was a situation where the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 was definitely not performing up to the capabilities of the console. Much has been said of the Nintendo Switch’s impossible ports, and while we don’t expect every third party game to look as good as Doom Eternal or The Witcher 3 on the Switch, we know that Switch games should not look bad at all.

NetherRealm released their first patch a little over a week ago, but that patch did not deliver on what fans were looking for. We will have to wait for YouTubers and game press to review the game post patch and see if Mortal Kombat 1 is up to the standards expected of NetherRealm Studios.

If everything is up to stuff, than Nintendo Switch owners can also look forward to the introduction of Invasions mode.

Invasions is an expansion of the Mortal Kombat team’s ambitions to expand their fighting game from the competitive and single player storyline modes. Replacing The Krypt from previous games, Invasions is a board game style RPG where players fight off invaders from alternate timelines. Through the course of the player’s run, they earn in-game currency that they can then use to buy cosmetics.

So that’s something fun for the players to look forward to, if the game is finally fixed.
