When it comes to Activision Blizzard, we know that we can expect a new Call of Duty game to drop yearly. We know the developers are working on a new Call of Duty game for this year, but what it is remains a mystery. We got a small tease over the game just yesterday, which is when we can expect a proper reveal. But today, we have yet another small little update on the game project, and it’s thanks to a recent earnings call.
Thanks to a report from VGC, we have learned that Activision Blizzard has had a brief update on the Call of Duty 2023 release. This update came during an earnings call today in which the Activision team revealed that they are hard at work on the next major installment for the franchise. Furthermore, they have noted that this year’s premium installment for the franchise is proceeding well on both PC and console platforms. But again, we didn’t get any actual details regarding what this next game installment will be.
Of course, thanks to a recent tease, we have a pretty good idea of what the next installment will be. Yesterday, as mentioned, the official Call of Duty Twitter account revealed that the big unveiling for the game would come during the season 5 announcement. Furthermore, it was noted that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II operators, weapons, and bundles will carry over onto the Call of Duty 2023 installment. So that is giving us an indication that we’re going to see the next game released as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
But again, we have to wait for the actual reveal to happen in order to officially label Call of Duty 2023 as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Meanwhile, we’re also waiting to see if Call of Duty will land under the Xbox umbrella. In recent news, the deadline for Microsoft and Activision Blizzard’s merger was extended. But even when Microsoft finally acquires Activision Blizzard, we already know Call of Duty will not be leaving any competitor platforms.
There was even a contract deal signed with Sony to ensure that for the next ten years, we would see Call of Duty games land on the PlayStation platforms. So you can continue to expect new releases to land on Xbox competitor platforms for years to come.
