Are you excited at the possibility of a “full ninja roster”? Or would you rather some slots be saved for other characters? Let us know below!
ORIGINAL STORY
Whenever a new fighting game comes out, the immediate question you have to ask is, “Who will be in the game?” While you can expect the “standard characters,” not every one of them makes them into the next game most of the time. Then, there are the new characters you have to wonder about. It can be quite a journey to learn about who’s all available. In the case of Mortal Kombat 1, that’s a more important set of questions than ever as we’re dealing with a new game and a remade timeline. Something Ed Boon loves teasing online.
Since the game was released, the franchise’s co-creator has been dropping all sorts of teases online to highlight what may or may not be coming to the title. The most recent trailer revealed that Rain and Smoke would be added to the title and would have new backstories. When you add that to Scorpion and Sub-Zero already being announced for the game, some gamers had unique ideas that Ed Boon was happy to follow up on.
For example, one person posted on Twitter that we could have a “full set” of ninjas in a series entry for the first time ever. To which Boon replied:
While that’s hardly confirmation, it is intriguing that he would acknowledge the possibility in some way. In the picture above, the only ninjas we don’t have announced yet are Reptile and Ermac. Reptile was previously teased for the game by Boon himself, but then the Rain/Smoke trailer arrived. As for Ermac, he has been in several entries and could make another appearance in the upcoming title should things go a certain path.
Even if they aren’t playable characters, they could arrive via the Kameo slots, which have already shown to have quite the roster, including fellow ninjas Cyrax, Sektor, and Frost.
However, having them be fully playable could be beneficial to the characters as that would mean they’d get some new backstories and potential movesets. Many were impressed by how Smoke and Rain appeared in the new trailer, coming off less like clones of Sub-Zero and Scorpion and more like original concepts. If that were to happen to Reptile and Ermac, then we could have a very deep roster of “ninjas” to choose from.
Oh, and if you’re wondering about Noob Saibot, he’s technically a ninja but also the resurrected form of a character that already may be in the game. So you might have to settle on a Kameo for him.
