In our gaming world, leaks are easily one of the most annoying things that can come around. Why? Because they happen all the time, they’re rarely right, and it floods the gaming space with misinformation to the point where we don’t know who to trust. To that end, it’s rather impressive when something does get something right. But to some, it’s still annoying because the developers of these titles don’t want leaks, as that hurts the “surprise” of what’s to come. In the case of Mortal Kombat 1, its plot is very unique compared to what’s happened before. But as you might have guessed, a leak might have already spoiled much of what will happen.
The irony is that this leak isn’t recent. Instead, it’s from a year ago. Someone posted the original link on Reddit before it was taken down, so they took a screenshot of it instead. Through it, we can see that this leaker knew some of the plot elements that have already been confirmed.
For example, we see the statement that Sub-Zero and Scorpion are now literally brothers, which has already been confirmed via character bios. They also state in the leak that they are Bi-Han and Kuai Liang, which hasn’t been outright said in the bios but heavily implied.
The leak mentions the Kameos, too, which was a big thing that Ed Boon was proud of. Still not impressed? The “Tarkat Plague” is mentioned in the leak, and we know that this will be tied to Mileena’s new backstory as she’s infected with the disease, which could lead to her losing control over Outworld.
As of now, the other parts of the leak haven’t been confirmed yet. But that doesn’t mean they won’t. There are multiple elements here that could be done, such as Shao Khan merely being a general after Liu Kang rewrote history. Or how there will be Kombat Kodes or the Titans fighting at the end of the game.
The potential of this new timeline is vast, and NetherRealm Studios has implied that the past, present, and future will be represented in this game in one form or another. But most importantly, the game will be just as violent as ever. The trailers alone have showcased how deadly the game will be to its losers. So you might want to try not to be on the losing end of a match.
Either way, gamers will want to see how everything will unfold when Mortal Kombat 1 arrives later this year.
