We’ve known since February that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet would have DLC content, not unlike Gen 8. Like the previous generation, it’ll take us to new locations, show us new Pokemon, and have us explore a new story. The question, however, is how these two locations tie into the DLCs unified title of “The Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero.” At the Nintendo Direct today, we didn’t get the answer to that question, but we did get a new look at both DLC packs and saw some new sights and glimpses of the Pokemon we’ll meet. Shall we unpack them for you?
First up, there’s “The Teal Mask” content, where you’ll get to go on a class trip to an area called Kitakami. There, you’ll meet two key characters via, Carmine and Kieran, who may not give you the “welcome” you expect. When you get past the introductions, you’ll participate in a multi-day festival known as the “Festival of Masks, which is set to honor the “Loyal Three” who defended Kitakami from a terrible danger.
We get a glimpse of those three in the trailer and the titular Pokemon with the Teal Mask. The first part of the DLC is set to arrive in the Fall.
The second part of the DLC is “The Indigo Disk,” and we are welcomed by a man named Cyrano to The Blueberry Academy. To say this place is unique is an understatement. First, the academy is in the middle of the ocean! Second, the academy has two parts: the school above the water and the “Terarium” underneath the sea!
That’s right. You’ll be going underwater to explore a new land mass with a mix of regions and Pokemon to meet! That includes the legendary Pokemon with the Indigo Disk you’ll eventually encounter. The second part of the DLC will arrive in Winter 2023.
As you can see in the trailer above, the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC looks to be expansive in its own way. But the question will be whether the content feels “worthy” to players and whether The Pokemon Company allows Game Freak to release the game in a non-buggy state. Many gamers are still bitter that many of the performance issues that Gen 9 had at launch haven’t been fixed yet.
Furthermore, the fact that we still don’t have a release date for either DLC package is troubling. But if it means it’s getting refined, gamers won’t mind.
