Blizzard struck down the Harvard University team for the Heroes of the Dorm tournament for cheating. Turns out Blizzard looks down on that sort of thing, especially since we’re looking at tens of thousand of dollars for tuition. The cheater was exposed and it cost the entire team their chance at coming out on top in the latest tournament.
Heroes of the Dorm is a tournament ran by Blizzard which focuses on the game, Heroes of the Storm. University students from the United States and Canada have been representing their schools for the event which takes place in Seattle starting on April 9, 2016, and will wrap up the following day, April 10, 2016.
What’s on the line is each student in the winning team of this tournament will earn $75,000 in tuition for their college career. Furthermore, players can get in on the action by participating in the bracket challenge which would give players a chance to win $10,000.
However, for the Harvard University team, their chances were tossed out as one member of the team was sharing his account to a more skilled level player. This greatly affects the playing field for gamers and reflects negatively against Blizzard and their tournament.
Because the cheater was discovered, Blizzard disqualified their team and is looking to take disciplinary actions against the Battle.net accounts that were involved.
This is not the first team discovered using cheats to improve their odds in winning. There was an incident last year with the University of Connecticut as one student was not registered for a semester. Furthermore, the university of Michigan was also disqualified for their team cheating.
Regardless, the event is still rolling on with the Golden Mishas from UC Berkeley and Team Tilt from Indiana-Purdue battling it out for Harvard’s spot. The event, as mentioned, takes place on April 9, 2016, through April 10, 2016, in CenturyLink Field, Seattle WA. If you don’t live within the area, you’re in luck as the entire event will broadcast on ESPN 2.
