When it comes to video games, having a release date is important because it lets people know when it’s coming and builds up anticipation by showcasing when it’s getting “ever closer to release.” So when someone is only a few weeks away or a few months away, they like to highlight that. For Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, this game has been anticipated for years. It was first unveiled in 2019 at E3, and fans have been aching for more information about it since then. Then, last year, we finally got its release date of May 12th, 2023.
Needless to say, fans and critics alike are counting down to that big arrival. So you’ll see messages like this all over Twitter today:
Indeed, we are 100 days away from Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom coming to Nintendo Switch, and fans are pumped for multiple reasons. The first is that the previous mainline entry in the franchise was not only an excellent game but the best-selling video game in the franchise. So many hope the game’s quality and sales numbers will match that.
But most importantly, fans want to see what the game is like. It might sound like an odd thing to hear about a video game whose release date has been announced, but it’s true. Unfortunately, we know precious little about the game 100 days before its release. In fact, we’ve only had one true trailer for the title, and it didn’t reveal as much as you would think.
We know the game is a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, and we know that a dark force is going to rip apart Hyrule and raise those chunks into the sky. In the most recent trailer, we also saw that the Master Sword gets broken, Link gets a powered-up arm, and Zelda is missing. But how everything ties together? Or what do some of these reveals mean? We don’t know.
That’s why so many people hope the rumors of a Nintendo Direct coming within the next week are true. If there was ever a time to drop information about the upcoming title, it would be during a Direct. It also should be noted that Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom will allegedly be the “biggest title of 2023” on the Switch and that Nintendo won’t have a “lot of releases after it.” All the more reason to hype people up to buy it day one.
